Fawley (19 November 2007) -- A new specialist piece of equipment, which should enable graphics students to achieve higher GCSE grades, has been installed at one New Forest School.
The technology department at Hardley School has taken delivery of the new computer-aided machine which was bought mainly with a £1,000 grant from Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley. The equipment, which is computer controlled, will enable graphics students to cut out vinyl and card which they have pre-designed.
Head of technology, Stephen Coote, said: “This equipment will make a significant difference to graphics students working to GCSE level next year. It should enable them to achieve higher grades. It can be used to make stickers and signs but it is also a great way of producing professional looking boxes.
“We already have the equipment up and running and are working on a project to design and create board games which tie in with the 2012 Olympics.”
The ExxonMobil Link Schools programme provides science equipment grants, assistance in improving the school environment and curriculum resources to almost 40 schools based around ExxonMobil's main areas of employment.
ExxonMobil is committed to being a good neighbour and the programme improves the links between the company and the community.
