ExxonMobil has an interest in nearly 60 producing oil and gas fields in the North Sea. These are operated either by Mobil North Sea LLC (MNS) or by another company as part of a joint operation. We are responsible for 12 per cent of the UK's total oil and gas production. Several different types of production installation are used to maximise the efficient and cost-effective recovery of oil and gas from our offshore fields. The installation may be a platform, a floating production facility or sub-sea wellheads connected to a central processing facility. Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited and Mobil North Sea LLC have been producing gas from the North Sea since 1968 and oil since 1976. Both the Brent and Beryl fields have been producing oil and gas for some 30 years. The extended life span of these fields is due almost entirely to investment in the development of new technologies. Ongoing technological advances in reservoir management tools have offered new geological insights and improved reservoir performance. Engineering innovations such as extended reach drilling and horizontal wells allow optimum development.
