ExxonMobil hosts Leatherhead & District Business Awards

15 June 2015 - Members of the Leatherhead & District business community gathered to launch the annual Leatherhead & District Business Awards at an event held at ExxonMobil’s offices in Leatherhead, Surrey on 15 June.

With ten categories, the Awards will highlight and recognise the people and companies who go the extra mile to achieve success and/or inspire others to achieve their potential. Open to any individual or business/organisation located within Leatherhead, Ashtead, Bookham, Effingham, Mickleham, or Fetcham, the Awards are FREE to enter.

The nomination process is simple. You may nominate yourself or your company, or any organisation or individual for any of the award categories. Online entry forms may be downloaded from the Awards website at www.leatherheadawards.com. The entry deadline is Friday 11 September 2015.

This year’s award sponsors include ExxonMobil (Headline Sponsor); Leatherhead and District Chamber of Commerce; Unilever; Surrey County Council; Prowse & Co. Ltd; The Gatwick Diamond Initiative; Mole Valley District Council; Mundays LLP; the Leatherhead Advertiser; Platinum Business Magazine and Riverbridge House Business Centre. A panel of senior executives from the sponsor organisations will judge the awards and finalists may be visited by the Judges.

Sophie Foale, Community Affairs adviser at ExxonMobil said: “We are delighted to support the Leatherhead & District Business Awards again this year. The Awards scheme is a fitting celebration of the talent which abounds in the local business community. Continuing from the success of last year, we hope to engage with even more local businesses this year and we look forward to congratulating our next round of deserving winners.”

Finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony at St. John’s School, Leatherhead on 30 November 2015 where each winner will be presented with a trophy and certificate in front of an audience of around 90 guests.

Jackie Quinn, president of the Leatherhead & District Chamber of Commerce said: “We are fortunate that Leatherhead and its surrounding villages are home to a diverse range of businesses. These Awards highlight and recognise the people and companies who go the extra mile to achieve success or inspire others to achieve their potential.”

Joanne Rogers, managing director of Prowse & Co said: “The awards are an opportunity to celebrate success and highlight outstanding achievements by businesses, both large and small in the Leatherhead area. We originally created the awards to support initiatives that inspire business excellence and encourage interaction between local businesses and we are delighted they have become a keynote annual event.”

Commenting on last year’s success, John Barker, sales director of Humidity Solutions (winner of both the 'Business of the Year 2014' and the 'Marketing Campaign of the Year 2014' Awards) said: "Winning two Leatherhead and District Business Awards in 2014 was certainly the highlight of the year for Humidity Solutions Ltd. In particular, it was an outstanding reward for our staff in recognition of the hard work they have put into the company since it was formed in 2008.”

The award categories are:

Best Business Contribution to the Community, sponsored by ExxonMobil

This award recognises businesses that can demonstrate responsible business practices across areas including the local community, environment, supply chains and the local economy. Judges will be looking to recognise an organisation that stands out from the crowd and has shown high levels of commitment, initiative and dedication towards giving something back into the communities in which it operates

Business of the Year, sponsored by the Leatherhead & District Chamber of Commerce

This award is for a local company that excels in all aspects of running a successful business and has shown high levels of commitment to its employees, customers and product/service development. The judges are looking for outstanding performance in one or more aspects of its business activities, including business management, customer care, marketing, community, HR and environmental initiatives.

International Business of the Year, sponsored by the Gatwick Diamond Initiative

The award recognises businesses that demonstrate success in achieving growth or expansion in international markets. The judges are looking for a business of any size that best demonstrates an international growth strategy that has achieved outstanding improvement in sales, profit and market share.

Professional Services Firm of the Year, sponsored by Prowse & Company Ltd

This award is for a local professional services firm (Law, Accountancy, Finance, Bank, Pensions etc) that excels in all aspects of running a successful organisation. The winning business will offer a high quality of service, professional expertise and a clear commitment to its employees and customers.

Sustainable Organisation of the Year, sponsored by Unilever

This award recognises businesses that demonstrate a commitment to improving the sustainability of their business and have implemented a combination of economic, social and environmental improvements that enhance the overall sustainability of the business.

Leisure and Tourism Award, sponsored by Surrey County Council

This category is open to any organisation involved in the delivery of leisure, tourism, visitor attractions or hospitality. The judges are looking for an organisation that demonstrates outstanding performance in a number of aspects relating to its operations, including evidence of growth, investment and delivery of innovations and improvements, adding value to the local area whilst creating employment opportunities and customer satisfaction.

Retailer of the Year, sponsored by the Leatherhead Advertiser

This award sets out to recognise and acknowledge the contribution that retailers make in growing and sustaining the local economy and in setting the standard for customer service excellence. The judges are looking for a business that demonstrates ‘first class’ customer service, strong business performance, innovation and the ability to adapt and change.

Employer of the Year, sponsored by Mole Valley District Council

This award recognises businesses or organisations that best demonstrate their commitment to investing in people. The judges will be looking for employee strategies that attract, retain and develop talent and how this contributes to sustainable growth. They will also be looking for evidence of how employees are engaged in strategic goals and company values as well as investment in people.

Women in Business Award, sponsored by Mundays LLP

This award celebrates successful women who have excelled in their specific business, profession, organisation or line of work. The judges are looking for women who have clearly made a difference in business over the past 12 months. The essence of this award is to discover and reward exceptional women who stand out - through leadership, entrepreneurialism, mentoring skills, and/or their ideas – at any age or stage in their careers.

Business Person of the Year, sponsored by Platinum Business

This award celebrates an individual who is likely to have demonstrated high levels of commitment, initiative and dedication in key aspects of business performance, helping the company or the local business community achieve success and/or inspiring others to achieve their full potential. The judges are looking for a business person (in any position within a large or small company or self-employed consultant or freelance) who has shown outstanding achievement, dedication and enthusiasm in his/her role.
