Howzat for a donation!

YOUNGSTERS at Fawley Cricket Club have been bowled over this summer, thanks to a generous donation from ExxonMobil at Fawley.

Colts at the Holbury-based club are sporting new helmets, pads and gloves and using new cricket balls after receiving grants totaling £3,000 from their refinery neighbours. The cash has also helped to pay for a new on-field equipment storage area.

Kieran Earl, who is one of the coaches looking after a group of almost 50 colts, ranging from Under 9s to Under 15s, said: “We are really grateful to ExxonMobil for their help in supplying the equipment.

“We are an inclusive club and our motto is ‘cricket for all’. If we can help encourage children to come along and play by coaching them and supplying as much kit and equipment as we can then it’s a definite incentive. That’s why the support from ExxonMobil is so welcome.”

The donation to Fawley Cricket Club was made through ExxonMobil’s company Volunteer Involvement Programme (VIP) a scheme which recognises the time and effort that members of staff put into projects and organisations in the area. Kieran, Maintenance Reliability Leader at the Fawley site, was awarded £1,000 as were his cricket club colleagues, and fellow ExxonMobil employees, Shaun Hilton and Alfie Cole. The VIP scheme not only helps local organisations, but also improves the links between ExxonMobil and the local community.
