Fawley teams breaking barriers

We like nothing better in Newsline than showcasing the success of colleagues across the business – this month’s issue highlights a trio of ‘Breaking Barriers’ awards won by teams from Fawley.

‘Breaking Barriers’ is a new Global Projects Brownfield recognition initiative aimed at promoting innovation in project execution.  Launched earlier this year, the scheme recognises significant site and team initiatives to promote and share competitive improvements for the business.  Each month, submissions are selected by the Brownfield leadership team and endorsed by vice president Dan Wieczynski.

Fawley’s FAST project has won two of these awards for safety and innovation.  On the safety front, FAST won a Brownfield ‘Catch of the Month’ award for an excellent intervention by the team at Polimeri relating to the delivery of two analyser houses.  Upon requesting the lifting drawing and the lifting lug calculations, the team discovered that the drawing was incorrect and that a spreader bar required to lift the analyser houses was not shown. The team went back to the vendor with their findings and the lift was safely carried out according to the correct calculations.

FAST was also recognised for showing innovation in contracting, winning a Breaking Barriers award for adopting an alliance contracting strategy with construction subcontractors. The ‘one team, one goal’ approach allows the project to improve relationships with contracting partners, ensuring a streamlined decision-making process, said Yuri Cordy, FAST engineering manager.

A Breaking Barriers award was also picked up by Fawley’s Projects team for developing and implementing a new delivery quality system that incorporates learnings from across ExxonMobil and external industry organisations.  Darren Callaghan, Fawley site projects manager, said: “The team has done a fantastic job to develop and implement the innovative system which has transformed our construction work processes and will help deliver world-leading projects, consistent with our core values of safety and quality.”
