Community support & involvement
Our North Sea joint operation with Shell, Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited supports a diverse range of community projects in the Aberdeen area.
These are some of the key projects and initiatives we are supporting:
Schools in Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire are benefiting from the ExxonMobil Link Schools programme which provides local primary and secondary schools with science grants and a range of environmental education, energy efficiency work and a science theatre programme. Education expertise and practical support is provided from our partners Grounds for Learning, CREATE and Generation Science.
In partnership with Shell U.K. Limited we support Grampian Police’s Learning for Life resource for schools that covers citizenship topics such as bullying, drugs, vandalism, safety, citizenship law and order, harmony and diversity.
Continuing our commitment to young people in our community we supported Aberdeen Foyer’s 'Foyer Works' programme and Prince’s Trust programmes in Peterhead.
We donated portable monitoring and resuscitation equipment to Aberdeen’s Royal Infirmary's (ARI) Accident & Emergency department. This complements equipment donated by ExxonMobil in previous years and can be used either in the resuscitation room or at the scene of an incident to assist with life saving care. Our latest project is with Archie Foundation to improve child & parent provisions at ARI.
In Aberdeen we supported Energy Action Scotland’s (EAS) initiative that introduced energy efficiency and cost saving measures and training to community buildings in the area, including Mental Health Aberdeen’s Alford Centre, Forglen Hall in Turriff, The Phoenix Club in Torry, Middlefield Community Project, Rosemount Community Centre and the Dyce Community Centre.
Linking our support for the environment with our long association with the National Trust Scotland, we funded the development of a woodland play and learn area at Castle Fraser in Aberdeenshire. Pupils from some of our linked primary schools participated in the opening event. We have also purchased a marquee which can be used for education activities in all the trust properties in the north east.
ExxonMobil’s employee Volunteer Involvement and Parent Council programmes encourage our employees and their families to give their time and talents to the community. Employees and their families devoted over 3,000 hours of their spare time to voluntary work in the community between 2004 and 2009. A total of 40 organisations and charities received more than £37,000 in support of the efforts of our employees and their families.
Our safety performance benefited local charities. For safety targets met during 2009 we donated £30,300 to local organisations including Archie Foundation, Autism Initiative UK, Brain Injury Grampian, Riding for the Disabled, Calico, Cornerstone Community Care, Peterhead Maternity Unit and the Peterhead Sea Cadets.
