Our operations

The ExxonMobil Fawley Refinery and Petrochemical Complex operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to produce fuels and chemical products essential to modern society.

Located on the western shore of Southampton water and opened in 1951, ExxonMobil Fawley is the largest UK refinery and is home to Esso Petroleum Company Limited and ExxonMobil Chemical Limited.

Covering 3250 acres, Fawley is critical to the UK’s national infrastructure.

Around 1,900 ships deliver crude to its marine terminal where Fawley manufactures a wide range of products including approximately one fifth of the UK’s transportation fuel needs. The majority of its products including petrol, diesel and jet fuel are transported by pipeline serving terminals as far as London, Bristol and Birmingham.

ExxonMobil Fawley also produces a wide range of lubricants and chemicals which are essential in modern-day society. Products produced go into items as diverse as medical equipment such as rubber stoppers in vials, masks and respirators, as well as electric vehicles and wind turbines. Even the rubber produced helps keep modern day tyres inflated for longer – and that’s just a few.
