Preparatory work to start at former Esso oil terminal in Bowling

As part of the agreed sale to West Dunbartonshire Council, Esso is fully committed to voluntarily remediating the site to standards agreed with West Dunbartonshire Council and regulatory body, SEPA, in order to prepare it for future beneficial use.

 The preparatory work is expected to start around May 24. It will predominantly involve establishing site infrastructure and welfare facilities for workers in accordance with COVID-19 regulations and taking delivery of equipment and associated materials ahead of the remediation work starting later this year.  

 DEC is part of the DEME Group, one of Europe’s largest maritime and environmental engineering companies, which has specialised in the environmental remediation of sites for more than 25 years.

 James Hadwen, Esso’s manager for the remediation project at Bowling, said: “We are pleased to have appointed DEC, who are highly experienced in remediation, and we look forward to the preparatory work starting on site. While there will be traffic movements, they will be kept to a minimum and we don’t anticipate any impact to the local community.

  “We will also continue to engage with the local community to keep them informed of the programme of works on the site, which forms a key part of WDC’s vision for regeneration in the area under the Glasgow City Region City Deal and will bring with it substantial economic benefits.”
