Environmental Monitoring Programme
Since starting production 36 years ago, Fife Ethylene Plant has undertaken and continuously evolved a comprehensive programme of environmental monitoring – covering emissions to air, as well as noise and vibration. This monitoring has evolved over time in line with emerging regulations, understanding of environmental aspects and feedback from stakeholders.
Submitted in April 2022 to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), this latest monitoring programme helps us to accurately assess and address any environmental risks, and ensure we comply with our legal obligations and international agreements.
We monitor all 19 emission points as identified by SEPA, as well as undertaking broader site-wide monitoring.Our latest programme is available here.
FEP and Local Air Quality
FEP operates to strict environmental standards and our teams work hard to ensure our operations are as efficient as possible.
Fife Council and SEPA regularly monitor air quality to ensure it continues to meet stringent environmental standards.
The following links provide fully independent data that consistently show Mossmorran has no impact on local air quality.
It is highly unlikely for FEP to impact local air quality of people in Fife.
Initial air quality monitoring continues to be in line with previous monitoring and shows no cause for concern
No air quality issues in the vicinity of Mossmorran or Braefoot Bay were identified.
Emissions from Mossmorran and Braefoot Bay continue to pose no significant risk to the health of members of the local community.
