Rewards of working safely

Outstanding safety performance has meant that members of a project team at ExxonMobil Fawley have been able to donate £1,900 to a Waterside charity.

The cash has come from a safety scheme which has run in conjunction with the project. Rob Tarbard, Project Manager, Fawley Chemicals and Refinery Portfolio Projects, said: “A safety scheme for the project began in November 2015, part of which was to award £100 for each safe week recorded. Since then, £1,900 has been collected.

“This was donated to the Waterside Cancer Support Centre, which works to help local people and their families suffering from cancer. The charity was chosen because one of our field engineers is currently recovering from a long period of treatment and other colleagues have also had experience of the disease through their family or friends.”

Karen Semmens, manager of the Hythe-based centre, came to the site for a special celebratory breakfast where she was presented with the cheque. She said: “We are incredibly grateful for this donation. To have raised this sum of money is a wonderful achievement by all those involved in the project.

“Being diagnosed with cancer not only has an emotional impact on the individual, but also on their family and friends. That’s why the services we provide at the Waterside Cancer Support Centre are so vital and why donations such as these make an enormous difference.”
