Seven complete 5K City Race for charity

Earlier this summer a team of six employees came together in the spirit of competition, camaraderie and giving back, to represent ExxonMobil in one of the UK’s premier corporate running challenges. Iconic landmarks in the City of London set the stage for the Standard Chartered Great City Race, held on Tuesday, 18 July.

Starting at the Honourable Artillery Ground in Moorgate, the 5km route weaved through London’s financial heartland, taking in Tower 42, the Bank of England, the London Wall and the Barbican. Closed roads allowed the runners to go at their own pace and immerse themselves in the city's history, where every step was a journey through time.

Joanne Tang was delighted she achieved a new personal best time of 25 minutes for the 5km distance. This added an extra spark to the day as the colleagues celebrated their accomplishments together, gaining a medal and T-shirt for completing the race. Afterwards, they all enjoyed some excellent hospitality provided by Standard Chartered!

David Maclean, Business Development Executive Africa & APAC, who participated in the race said: “Our team not only demonstrated their athletic prowess but also their commitment to giving back to the community. It was great that part of our entry fee went towards the charity Futuremakers run by Standard Chartered, which strives to tackle inequality and provide greater economic inclusion for young people worldwide.”

For those considering participating in next year's race, the resounding advice from David is to seize the opportunity without hesitation. He added: “Running through the historic streets of London with the support of colleagues is an experience like no other, and one that anyone should embrace wholeheartedly. I thoroughly recommend it and really enjoyed meeting new colleagues in the process!”

The team is pictured except for Sean Gunning who also took part.
